Team History During the Eighties NBA boom the league announced it wanted to add 4 franchises, expanding from 23 to 27 teams, by 1990. Florida, a state with no NBA franchise, was particularly targeted. Groups in Miami, Orlando and Tampa/St. Petersburg quickly responded. In 2006-07 the Heat were swept in the first round by the Bulls. In 2007-08 the team collapsed, posting an NBA worst 15-67 record.
