The Cincinnati Reds were founded in 1882 as a charter member of the American Association. The Reds left the American Association to join the National League in 1890 and the AA folded operations shortly thereafter. The following year the Reds were the 1973 West Division Champions but were eliminated from the postseason in the NLCS in 5 to the New York Mets.
Finally, in 1975, the Cincinnati Reds swept the Pirates in the NLCS and won the World Series in a memorable 7 game defeat of the Boston Red Sox. The following season the Reds successfully defended their title, sweeping the Philadelphia Phillies in the league championship series, then sweeping the New York Yankees to retain the title of World Champions.
The Cincinnati Reds most recent appearance in the World Series was in the 1990 season, when the team was swept in 4 straight by the Oakland A’s. The last time the franchise appeared in the MLB postseason was 1995, when the team swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the divisional round and got swept by the Atlanta Braves in the NLCS.
