Head Coach
 
At the end of the 2005 football season Bret Bielema replaced Barry Alvarez as head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers. Alvarez, who was head coach and athletic director, continues at Wisconsin in his capacity as athletic director.
 
Wisconsin, where Bielema has been since 2004, when he was hired as defensive coordinator, is Bielema’s first head coaching assignment. Prior to the Badgers he was co-defensive coordinator at Kansas State (2002-03) and linebacker coach at his alma mater, the University of Iowa (1996 – 2001).
 
Postseason
 
The Wisconsin Badgers are 10 – 10 in twenty postseason bowl appearances. In 2008 the Badgers lost two bowl games in the same calendar year. On New Years Day 2008 the Badgers squared off against the SEC Tennessee Volunteers and went down to defeat, 21-17. Three hundred and sixty-two days later the Wisconsin Badgers closed out their 2008 regular season with a 42-13 loss to the Florida State Seminoles in the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando, Florida.
