Head Coach
 
Tim Brewster became Minnesota Golden Gophers head coach in 2007. Minnesota is his first head coaching position. Prior to arriving in Minneapolis, Brewster spent a number of years working under Mack Brown (University of North Carolina, 1989 - 1998; University of Texas, 1997 - 2002) before moving on to the NFL.
 
Brewster was tight ends coach for the San Diego Chargers for the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons, additionally serving as assistant head coach during the 2004 season. Brewster went on to two seasons as the Denver Broncos tight ends coach immediately before accepting the University of Minnesota position.
 
In his 2007 debut season with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Brewester went 1-11 in the regular season and finished last in the Big 10 at 0-8 in conference play. Things improved considerably in 2008, with the Gophers going 7-6 overall and 3-5 in conference play; good enough for 6th place in the Big 10.
 
Postseason
 
The Minnesota Golden Gophers have appeared in postseason bowl games in 13 seasons. After a run of 3-straight postseason wins (2002 Music City Bowl, 2003 Sun Bowl, 2004 Music City Bowl), the Gophers’s 24-21 loss to Kansas Jayhawks extend the current postseason streak to 3 losses.
