Head Coach
 
In November 2006 Mark Dantonio became the 24th head coach of the Michigan State Spartans football team. Prior to arriving in East Lansing Dantonio was offensive coordinator from 2001 - 2003 for the Ohio State Buckeyes of the Big 10 and head coach from 2004 – 2006 for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats of the Big East Conference. In his two seasons with the Bearcats Dantonio went 18-17. In two seasons with the Spartans he has compiled a 16-10 record and 2 bowl appearances, both losses.
 
Postseason
 
The Michigan State Spartans are 7-12 in 19 bowl games. Under current head coach Mark Dantonio the team has appeared in the 2007 Champs Sports Bowl, a 24 - 21 loss to the Boston College Eagles of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), and the January 1st, 2009, Capital One Bowl, a 24 – 12 loss to the University of Georgia Bulldogs of the Southeast Conference (SEC).
