Since 2005 the DePaul Blue Demons head coach has been Jerry Wainwright. Wainwright began his college basketball coaching career as an assistant at Xavier during the 1984-85 season. The following season he worked as an assistant coach at Wake Forest, where he remained for nine years. In 1994 Wainwright was hired for his first head coaching position by the University of North Carolina at Wilmington of the Colonial Athletic Association. In his 8 seasons with the Seahawks Wainwright-coached teams went 136-103 and appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2000 and 2002. Following his teams’ appearance in the second round of the 2002 NCAA Tournament he accepted the head coaching position at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia. In his 3 seasons as head coach at Richmond, the Richmond Spiders went 50-42 and made a first round appearance in the 2004 NCAA Tournament.

Wainwright’s .472 winning percentage over the course of his 3-season tenure at DePaul is 90 points lower than his career average before his arrival. In his first season (2005-06) at DePaul the Blue Demons went 12-15 overall and 5-11 in conference play, which left the team tied for 13^th place in a 16 team conference and out of the post season. The 2006-07 was a major improvement. Despite playing 11 teams that went to the 2006 NCAA Tournament, the Blue Demons went 20-14 including the games played on the way to a the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) Quarterfinals.

Home court for DePaul Blue Demons basketball is Allstate Arena, previously known as the Rosemont Horizon, 6920 North Mannheim Road in Rosemont, IL, a western suburb of Chicago. 2008-09 marks the University of DePaul’s 29th season of playing in Rosemont. Allstate Arena is an 18,500-seat arena that has hosted the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament First and Second Rounds in 1987 and 1993 and the 2005 Chicago Regional.
