Other campuses under the WVU Board of Governors are: West Virginia University at Parkersburg in Parkersburg; West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Montgomery; Potomac State College of West Virginia University in Keyser; and a second clinical campus for the University’s medical and dental schools at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, WV. Home court for the West Virginia Mountaineers men’s basketball team is West Virginia University Coliseum on the WVU Morgantown campus, a 14,000-seat facility built in 1970.

The West Virginia Mountaineers finished the 2007-08 basketball season with an overall record of 26-11 (a .703 winning percentage) and an 11-7 record (.611) in Big East conference play, which was good enough for 5th place, behind the Georgetown Hoyas, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Louisville Cardinals, Connecticut Huskies and Marquette Golden Eagles.
The West Virginia Mountaineers have been Big East champs in 12 seasons. All but two of those championships occurred between 1955 and 1967, including eight consecutive championship seasons from 1955-63. The team has made it to the Sweet Sixteen 5 times. 3 of those times were in the past 4 seasons: 2005, 2006, 2008. The other 2 Sweet Sixteen appearances were 1959 and 1998. In 1959 and 2005 the Mountaineers made it through to the Elite Eight and in 1959 the team made it all the way to the championship game before losing.
In the most recent NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament the Mountaineers entered the West Regional as the #7 seed. In the first round it was the West Virginia Mountaineers versus the 11th seed Arizona Wildcats of the Pac-10. The Mountaineers won, 75-65. Their second round opponent was the #2 seed Duke University Blue Devils of the Atlanta Coast Conference. The Mountaineers shocked a lot of people and delighted their fans with a 73-67 upset win. In the Sweet Sixteen they faced the #3 seed Xavier Musketeers and lost in overtime, 79-75.
