The Tigers of Louisiana State University are an original member of the Southeast Conference (SEC), one of the strongest of the Division I athletic conferences. In 1992, a year after the SEC expanded from 10 to 12 teams with the addition of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the South Carolina Fighting Gamecocks, the SEC adopted a two-division format. SEC basketball teams play a 16-game conference schedule, facing division rivals twice per season and each team from the opposite division once.

The LSU Tigers play in the SEC West Division; other members of the West Division are; the Alabama Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, the Arkansas Razorbacks of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, the Auburn Tigers of the University of Auburn in Auburn, Alabama, the Ole Miss Running Rebels of the University of Mississippi in Oxford and the Mississippi State Bulldogs of Mississippi State University in Starkville. Members of the SEC East division are; the Florida Gators of the University of Florida in Gainesville, the Georgia Tech Bulldogs of the University of Georgia in Athens, the Kentucky Wildcats of the University of Kentucky in Lexington, the South Carolina Fighting Gamecocks of the University of South Carolina in Columbia, the Tennessee Volunteers of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and the Vanderbilt Commodores of Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

Home court for the LSU Tigers is the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, a 13,472-seat multi-purpose arena on the Louisiana State University campus in Baton Rouge. The arena, known as the LSU Assembly Center when it opened in 1972, was renamed in 1988 following the death of college basketball legend and LSU Tigers alumni Pete Maravich. Maravich is the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I men’s basketball, with 3,667 points scored and a 44.2 ppg average.
