| Iowa Hawkeyes The decision to favor the Big 10 brand over accuracy is understandable. Founded in 1896, the Big 10 is the oldest Division I college athletic conference in the United States. The conference as a whole provides nearly $100,000,000 annually in direct financial aid to over eight thousand male and female student-athletes. In addition to the conference’s athletic prowess, it also has a well deserved reputation for high academic standards. In the 1985 book Public Ivies, nine of the Big 10’s 10 public institutions (Northwestern is the only private university in the conference) were deemed to “provide an Ivy League collegiate experience at a public school price.” Whether you’re looking for cheap seats behind the backboards, a luxury sky-box or something closer to courtside, we’re your Awesome ticket broker for Iowa Hawkeyes tickets for the basketball regular season and Iowa Hawkeyes postseason tickets. The Iowa Hawkeyes finished the 2007-08 season in 8 th place in the eleven-team Big Ten Conference with a regular season record of 13-19 and a conference record of 6-12. Home court for the Hawkeyes is 15,500-seat Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa. The team has made 22 appearances in the NCAA Tournament since 1955, but has only survived to the Sweet Sixteen three times; 1983, 1988 and 1998. The Iowa Hawkeyes have never won an NCAA Basketball Championship. The Hawkeyes went undefeated at Carver-Hawkeye Arena for the first time in school history during the 2005-06 season and finished in a second-place tie with the Fighting Illini of the University of Illinois, Champagne-Urbana. That season the Hawkeyes won the Big Ten Tournament by defeating Minnesota, Michigan State, and Ohio State. The Hawks finished the regular season 25–8 overall and were seeded #3 in the Atlanta Regional. The team was upset in the first round by #14 seed Northwestern State, 64–63. At the conclusion of the 2006-07 season, Head Coach Alford resigned to accept the coaching position at the University of New Mexico. Following Alford’s departure Butler head coach and 2007 National Association of Basketball Coaches’ Coach of the Year Todd Lickliter was hired. In going after Lickliter the Hawkeyes have made the best move in years. During his six seasons with the Butler Bulldogs Lickliter went 131-61 and brought the Bulldogs to the Sweet Sixteen twice. While 2007-08 is a grace year, the honeymoon will be expected to end in to 2008-09 and Iowa City will be expecting Lickliter to put up some W’s. |
