In 1992, a year after the SEC expanded from 10 to 12 teams with the addition of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the South Carolina Fighting Gamecocks, the SEC adopted a two-division format. SEC basketball teams play a 16-game conference schedule, facing division rivals twice per season and each team from the opposite division once. The Florida Gators play in the SEC East Division. Other members of the SEC East division are; the Kentucky Wildcats of the University of Kentucky in Lexington, the South Carolina Fighting Gamecocks of the University of South Carolina in Columbia, the Kentucky Wildcats of the University of Kentucky in Lexington, the Tennessee Volunteers of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and the Vanderbilt Commodores of Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Meembers of the West Division are; the Auburn Tigers of the University of Auburn in Auburn, Alabama, the Alabama Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, the Arkansas Razorbacks of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, the LSU Tigers of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, the Ole Miss Running Rebels of the University of Mississippi in Oxford and the Mississippi State Bulldogs of Mississippi State University in Starkville. Home court for the Gators is the Stephen C. O’Connell Center, also known as the O-Dome, a 12,000-seat multi-purpose arena at on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Florida. For the best selection of Florida Gators tickets for the regular season and NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament tickets, count on Awesomeseating.com. The University of Florida Gators won back-to-back national titles in men’s basketball in 2006-07. The Gators were understandably unranked at the start of the 2005-06. The team’s best 3 players from the previous season were gone – one graduated and two left for the NBA. That left head coach Billy Donovan to start the 2005-06 season with an untested starting line-up of four sophomores and one junior. The unranked status didn’t last long: the Gators ripped off a 17-game win streak to start the season. They slowed down after the streak, going 10-6 over the final 16 games to finish the regular season 27-6, and entered the 2006 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament ranked tenth in the nation and seeded third in the Minneapolis Regional. In the first round the Gators easily disposed of the 14th seed Sun Belt Conference champion South Alabama Jaguars, 75-50. In the second round they eliminated the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers, 82-60. After beating their first two opponents by an average of 24 points, the Gators had to pass a gut-check against the Georgetown Hoyas in the Sweet Sixteen. With the Gators leading 55-53 and seven seconds left, Georgetown missed an open 3-pointer. The Gators ran it down court to run out the clock, nailing a two pointer at the buzzer to win 57-53. In the Elite Eight they eliminated the Villanova Wildcats, the team that had eliminated the Gators from the 2005 Final Four, 75-62. They beat the George Mason Patriots73-58 and then hammered perennial national champion UCLA Bruins 73-57 to take the national title. The University of Florida Athletic Association then purchased the floor used in Indianapolis for the Final Four, and installed it in the Gators’ home court, the O’Connell Center. The following season the Gators returned with the same starting line-up did it all over again.
