The Duke Blue Devils are members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The ACC added the Miami Hurricanes and Virginia Tech Hokies in 2004 and the Boston College Eagles in 2005. The Conference currently consists of twelve teams:

 

 

The ACC schedule works in three year cycles. Each team is assigned two permanent partners and nine rotating partners.

 

Teams play their permanent partners in a home-and-away series each year. The rotating partners are split into three groups: three teams who are played in a home-and-away series, three teams who are played at home, and three teams who are played on the road. This creates an intra-conference schedule of 16 games against 11 Atlantic Coast Conference teams. 2007-08 was another banner regular season for the Duke Blue Devils. The team finished second in the ACC with an intra-conference record of 13-3 and an overall record of 28-6, second behind the North Carolina Tar Heels, a team that eventually finished 36-3 and third in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils were seeded #2 in the West Regional and went up against #15 Belmont Bruins in the first round. The Bruins almost pulled the upset of the tournament, losing 71-70. In the second round the West Virginia Mountaineers abruptly ended what many had thought would be a deep run for Duke, eliminating the Blue Devils 73-67.

 

Head coach of the Duke Blue Devils is the legendary Michael William Krzyzewski. Born in 1941, Krzyzewski has been head coach of the Duke men’s basketball team since 1980. As of the start of the 2008-09 season his teams had won three NCAA Championships and appeared in the Final Four 10 times. During his tenure the Blue Devils have finished 10 seasons as ACC champions.
