The Auburn Tigers are one of the 10 original members of the Southeast Conference (SEC), one of the strongest of the Division I athletic conferences. In 1992, a year after the SEC expanded from 10 to 12 teams with the addition of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the South Carolina Fighting Gamecocks, the SEC adopted a two-division format. SEC basketball teams play a 16-game in-conference schedule, facing division rivals twice per season and each team from the opposite division once. The Auburn Tigers play in the SEC West Division. Other members of the West Division are; the Alabama Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, the Arkansas Razorbacks of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, the LSU Tigers of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, the Ole Miss Running Rebels of the University of Mississippi in Oxford and the Mississippi State Bulldogs of Mississippi State University in Starkville. Members of the SEC East division are; the Florida Gators of the University of Florida in Gainesville, the Georgia Tech Bulldogs of the University of Georgia in Athens, the Kentucky Wildcats of the University of Kentucky in Lexington, the South Carolina Fighting Gamecocks of the University of South Carolina in Columbia, the Tennessee Volunteers of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and the Vanderbilt Commodores of Vanderbilt University in Nashville. The Auburn Tigers have made eight appearances in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, including 5 consecutive appearances from 1984 – 1988. Jeff Lebo, head coach of the University of Auburn’s men’s basketball program, has been with the Tigers since replacing Cliff Ellis in 2004. In his four complete seasons at Auburn Lebo has compiled a 57-64 record. Prior to accepting the head coaching position at Auburn, Lebo spent 4 seasons (1998–2002) as head at Tennessee Tech of the Ohio Valley Conference and 2 seasons at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga of the Southern Conference. His combined record at the two schools was 115-63.
